Marcus Rashford was the hero as he scored the only goal of the game during Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over West Ham.
And it was a significant goal, too, as it brought up his 100th for the club.
Rashford has now scored six goals in all competitions and he’s starting to look back to his very best.
He’s already scored more goals this season than he managed in the whole of the 21/22 campaign, where he notched just five.
What’s behind the dramatic upturn of form?
Well, after picking up the Man of the Match award for his performance against West Ham, Rashford gave a refreshingly honest interview on Sky Sports.
He spoke about how he struggled mentally last season and that he wasn’t in the right ‘headspace’.
“Complete different energy around the club, that puts me in a better headspace,” Rasford admitted.
“I feel really motivated. Last year I struggled at times, mental things, off the pitch. Too often last season I wasn’t in the right headspace.”
It was a brilliantly honest interview – and one that Rashford deserves an enormous amount of respect for.
Rashford’s goal – and United’s win – lifted the Red Devils up to fifth in the table. They sit just one point behind Newcastle in fourth with a game in hand.
As for Rashford, he will be eyeing a place in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad. In this kind of form, it’s going to be very difficult for the England boss to leave him out.
Ahead of the West Ham game, the striker insisted Ten Hag is a ‘joy to work with’.
The manager’s a joy to work with, really,” Rashford told PA. “Is it hard work? Yeah, but I think we are enjoying it and we’re playing better football.
“I feel like when we don’t concede goals, we’ve got a good chance of winning games because we’re creating chances. “We just need to finish them off, be a bit more clinical in front of goal.”
