Marcus Rashford will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Manchester United at the end of this season and the club will make it their prime priority to tie their talisman down to a long-term deal.

Rashford, who has found the net 27 times this season, recently had his contract extended by one year after the club activated a one-year extension clause in his current deal.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that United were planning on accelerating their efforts to convince Rashford to commit his prime years to the club.

There have also been suggestions that Rashford has demanded a sizeable rise on his current wages, reports the player has now unequivocally denied on social media.

In response to a tweet claiming Rashford was seeking a whopping £500,000 per week salary, which would comfortably make him the highest earner at the club, the 25-year-old stopped the report in its tracks, claiming it was ‘nonsense’.

“Just before this one starts to do the rounds!” Rashford said on Twitter.

“It’s complete nonsense. The club and (myself) have been respectful to one another, and that’s how it will remain. My focus is purely on finishing as well as possible in the league and winning trophies.”

Rashford has quickly emerged as one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players and it is absolutely paramount that the club is able to convince the England star to extend his contract.

With two months remaining of the season, it is likely that any advanced talks will be put on hold until the campaign is wrapped up, with United still competing on three fronts after winning the Carabao Cup.
