Peterborough United star, Marcus Maddison has not ruled out a move to Sunderland in the future.

A boyhood Sunderland supporter, Maddison almost had his wish during the summer transfer window, but with Peterborough not budging on the £2.5m release clause, Sunderland opted against the move.

“You never know in football [about a future move to Sunderland],” said the 26-year-old. “I don’t know where my career will take me. Hopefully, I can go far with Peterborough but, in the future, you never know. If something comes up, then who knows.”

Despite not pulling the trigger on the transfer during the summer, Maddison remains in the Sunderland radar and the club will check back in with Peterborough during the January transfer window to see if a deal can be reached.

Maddison has seven goals and six assists in 13 league games so far this season.
