Ipswich Town star Marcus Harness has suggested that both Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle will have their moments and slip up in the League One promotion race.

In recent weeks, the Tractor Boys have drawn their last three league matches, meaning they are now four points behind second-placed Wednesday, and seven behind league leaders Plymouth Argyle.

It’s a long season, though, says Harness, who claims that he and his teammates simply have to take advantage when those above them slip up.

“It’s a long season,” the Ipswich attacker explained, via the East Anglian Daily Times.

“Every team will have moments. When other teams slip up, we just need to capitalise on them.

“We just need to keep doing what we’re doing, keep playing well and just try and rack up as many points as possible.”

Despite the deficit the club now have to their rivals, Harness believes that the squad are quietly confident that they can achieve something this campaign.

He insists, though, that they will do so quietly and by keeping their heads down.

“I think we are quietly confident that we can achieve something. We don’t want to scream and talk too much because obviously anything could happen in the second half of the season.” Harness added.

“Nothing is guaranteed and nobody is going to give us anything. Just because you’re a good team it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically going to achieve what you set out to achieve.

“We’re keeping quiet, keeping our heads down, just working hard to get to where we want to be and trying to make adjustments along the way – because we know we aren’t perfect.

“The manager and all the staff are working like no other staff that I’ve ever seen, giving direction and helping the players.

“It’s not like any dressing room I’ve been a part of before. You can see just how driven everyone is. Everyone is positive. There’s no cliques – everyone is pulling in the same direction.

“Hopefully we can do enough to achieve what we’re looking to do.”

The Verdict

This is positive talk from Marcus Harness and the sort of thing you would expect to hear in all honesty.

Ipswich Town have to believe that the two above them will slip up at some stage, because if not, their own season and efforts would be rendered pointless.

There is still a long way to go though, and those slip-ups could well come – from any of the current top three in the league.

One thing is for sure, it looks as though it is going to be a cracking promotion race down in the third tier.
