Marcos Llorente insists Atlético Madrid got the result they deserved against Elche on Saturday.

The attacker scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero, as Los Rojiblancos squeezed past the LaLiga strugglers.

However, the league leaders had to survive a late scare when Elche’s Fidel Chaves cracked an injury-time penalty off the upright.

It was the third time opponents had been successful from the spot in the last four efforts against Atleti.

In a post-game interview with Movistar, Llorente was asked if luck was playing a major part in their title bid.

“Starting from the fact that I don’t believe in luck, in the end, if [the penalty] got to the goal, [Jan] Oblak had guessed the right way,” the Spain international responded.

“We got the points and it gives us a lot of strength for what remains.

“Winning is always positive, confidence increases, and today is one of those days.”

Diego Simeone’s men hold a two-point advanatage at the summit of the table, and will win their first domestic championship since 2014 if they win all of their remaining four games.

The biggest test of their credentials will undoubtedly come next Saturday when they travel to the Nou Camp to take on fellow title hopefuls Barcelona.
