Marcos Llorente: Atlético will play to their strengths at Bayern | OneFootball

Marcos Llorente accepts that Atlético Madrid will have to bring all their renowned defensive acumen to bear in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians blew teams such as Chelsea and Barcelona away en route to claiming Europe’s top prize last season, meaning Atleti will make no apologies for implementing their trademark cautious approach.

“You don’t get so many chances and, therefore, both in attack and defense you have to be very effective,” the midfielder told reporters.

“You have to try to make sure they have fewer chances, while you create chances and try to score a goal.

“It’s going to be a very tough game, very difficult, and you have to try to concede as little as possible because Bayern Munich have already shown that if you leave spaces or make mistakes, they crush you.”

Despite Bayern’s achievement in winning a treble last season, Llorente insists Diego Simeone’s men will not fear their German opponents.

“They are a very tough opponent that we obviously respect, but we have our weapons.

“We have already shown that we can beat any team and this Wednesday we will work to do so again.”

Atlético dumped Liverpool out in the Round of 16 last February (with Llorente scoring two crucial goals at the second leg at Anfield), but subsequently lost to RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals when the competition resumed after COVID-19 lockdown.
