Marcos Alonso has been an Atletico target since 2019 – and could move this summer
the Chelsea News
With Ben Chilwell out, Marcos Alonso is Chelsea’s first choice left back, and he’s going to end up with a lot of appearances this season.
But his regular game time is really exposing how limited he is, and what a poor fit he is in Thomas Tuchel’s system. If anything, it’s accelerating his exit, with Emerson Palmieri potentially sticking around to back up Chilwell next season.
An exit for Alonso has been on the cards for some time – despite the fact he regularly returns to prominence under most Chelsea coaches. Marca today claim that Atletico Madrid are keen on signing him, and that the Spanish side have been interested since 2019.
What make this all so interesting is Chelsea’s current push to sign a short term left back. In an ideal world, they would arrange a deal to sell Alonso now, and get his replacement in right now.
