Marcos Alonso is one of the most divisive players we can remember at Chelsea.
The left back is simultaneously a cult hero for some fans; while others want him out of the club more than anyone else.
The latter camp won’t be too pleased to hear what he’s been saying about his future at Chelsea, which he appears very open to extending.
“I always had that interest from other clubs but I am happy to be here to achieve these kinds of trophies. I am looking forward to Saturday to try to make history and continue making the fans happy and ourselves also,” the left back said.
The rumours come around every summer, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid usually the sides most strongly connected with the Spain international.
When asked about whether he would be signing a new contract at Chelsea though – his deal expires in 2023 – he wouldn’t rule it out.
“Why not? For me I still have another year-and-a-half on my contract. I’m not thinking further than Saturday at the moment. It’s a question where maybe I don’t know the answer and it doesn’t just depend on what I want. But as I said before, I will always try to give 100% and always focus on the next game. I am very happy here so why not?”
For what it’s worth, we reckon next season Emerson will be back at Chelsea backing up Chilwell, while Alonso is moved on – but we’ve predicted an exit for the Spaniard many times before, and he’s never quite made it out the door, so if you’re one of the haters, don’t hold your breath.
