There was a bit of confusion yesterday after Marcos Alonso ran away celebrating Chelsea’s winning goal against Manchester City in the Premier League.

After some great work out wide by Chelsea, the ball fumbled around into the box and both Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi looked to apply the definitive strike at the same time.

From a distance it looked like Hudson-Odoi had got the strike and could claim the goal, but upon inspection it was probably an Alonso goal and all the players seemed to realise it.

All that mattered was that we scored to be honest and got the win against a team who are about to be crowned champions of the Premier League once again.

But even still, Alonso has cleared up Hudson-Odoi’s part in the goal via the Chelsea website.

He said:

“I think he kicked my foot. But at the end of the day, it’s the goal that counts whoever scores it and the three points for us are the most important thing.

“This was a very important three points for us because we are fighting for a top three spot. It was an important win and a big step to secure the top four position.

“We still have three games to go and we need to keep thinking game by game, trying to work hard to keep getting results.”

Hudson-Odoi came on late in the game and had a really good impact, helping Chelsea get the vital three points.
