Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Marco Verratti’s season is over after undergoing abductor surgery on Thursday.

The Italy international hasn’t played for the Parc des Princes club since the Coupe de la Ligue final against Monaco on March 31.

With the Ligue 1 title already wrapped up, Les Parisiens decided now was the best time for the 25-year-old to go under the knife.

“Marco Verratti had an operation on his adductor tendons in Paris today, performed by  Dr Reboul (a member of the Aspetar groin pain center),” PSG confirmed on their official website.

“The operation was a complete success. The date was chosen to allow Marco Verratti to resume the 2018-19 season in the best possible condition.”

Verratti will miss Italy’s friendlies against Saudi Arabia, France and Netherlands next month but should be fit again for the start of pre-season in July.
