Speaking after PSG’s draw with Lyon last weekend, Paris midfielder Marco Verratti was impressed by the contribution off the bench of 18-year-olds Édouard Michut and Xavi Simons. Verratti explained:
“It’s nice, I think they deserved their chance, they always train well. Mentally they’re ready, we saw it today. Édouard was decisive, Xavi runs everywhere, he knows how to play in several positions. I’m very happy for them.”
PSG coach Mauricio Pochedttino, meanwhile, admitted at his press conference after the game he could have started with both players: “You are right, it was a mistake to start with other players. Once they were on the pitch, we had more mobility and aggressiveness on the ball.”
Given minimal game time so far this season Simons and Michut have been reported as possible leavers over the next year.
