Marco van Basten says that Johan Cruyff would have been ashamed of how Barcelona have behaved this summer.

The Spanish club’s conduct has been hugely controversial in this transfer window, with them spending an enormous amount on signing new players while still owing money to those already at the club.

Frenkie de Jong is one of those who is owed a huge amount in wages but they have refused to pay him them, instead telling him that he has to take a pay cut if he wants to remain at the club.

Van Basten is highly critical of such conduct and feels that the late Barcelona legend Cruyff would be ashamed of how his former club is operating.

“I think Johan Cruyff would have been ashamed if he saw the way Barça was acting today,” he said on Ziggo Sport.

“In my opinion, Barcelona’s behaviour has been far below their standards.”

Rafale van der Vaart has said similar things, saying they should be ashamed of themselves.

“They should be ashamed of themselves,” he told Studio Voetbal.

“Is there going to be someone who stands up for the players? Listen Barcelona, this far and no further. This is ridiculous, isn’t it?

“They buy players, all nice presentations, but they can’t even pay their own players.”
