Sandro Ramírez could yet stay at Everton after a surprise appearance on Wednesday.

The Spanish forward made his first Everton appearance since December as started in the club’s 3-1 EFL Cup win over Rotherham at Goodison Park. Reports earlier on Wednesday had said Sandro was on the verge of completing a loan move to Real Sociedad.

However, he was surprisingly involved for the Toffees and manager Marco Silva made his intentions clear after the win.

“We have some problems with injury to our players I had to take the decision,” said the Portuguese.

“Even with what has happened with Sandro I believe in him, he showed me tonight he is a fantastic professional and for me I am not surprised.”

Following a €6m move from Málaga, Sandro made just 15 Everton appearances last season before returning to Spain to join Sevilla on loan.

He appeared destined for another LaLiga return this month but a deal has not yet been finalised and Silva admitted he would be happy to keep the 23-year-old after handing him his first appearance of the season.

“Even if I knew someone called up in the next hour and it is something Sandro is trying to find, I would like if I would stay with him in the squad because he is a player I believe in.

“Sometimes the players want to play more and it is not easy to keep all of them. It is not easy to play in our starting XI for all, not just Sandro. Sandro, of course, wants to play, last season wasn’t the best for him and we will see what will happen.”
