Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of RB Leipzig’s DFB Pokal game against St Pauli, Marco Rose has provided an update on Xavi Simons and David Raum.
It was revealed last week that Simons will be out for several weeks with ligament damage, while Raum is also struggling with a similar injury picked up before the international break with Germany. Both are to be sidelined for a while but Rose spoke on what their plan is for the pair (via Sky Germany):
“We are now FC Syndesmose (In relation to the injuries the pair are suffering) We believe that we can get both of them on the training ground this year. Xavi had an operation at the weekend, so being fit to play this calendar year is a heroic goal.”
On Raum more specifically:
“With David, we have to see if he’s good enough for the Bayern game. It will certainly be tight, but we’re hopeful that something can still happen.”
Leipzig is currently the only other team, alongside Bayern Munich, which is still unbeaten in the Bundesliga. The Saxony side also has the best defence in the league having only conceded three goals. If things stay as they are, the pair are set to meet in a big clash just before Christmas to determine who will finish top of the table this year.
At the weekend in their 3-1 win against Freiburg, Leipzig showed that they are performing well without the duo, but in such a high-profile clash against Bayern, they would hope that they can have some of their best players available.
