Marco Rose admitted that Erling Haaland is an irreplaceable cog for Borussia Dortmund after the striker’s return to action on Saturday.
The Norway international replaced Donyell Malen in the 73rd minute at the Volkswagen Arena, and scored just seven minutes later to put the seal on the three points for BVB.
Commenting on the 21-year-old’s immediate impact after recovering from a hip flexor issue, Rose told Sky Deutschland: “Erling gives us a lot of energy when he’s on the field. He’s a difference-maker that you cannot replace in the long run.”
The victory kept Dortmund just a point behind Bayern Munich ahead of next Saturday’s Klassiker.
Rose understands his side will need to be at their very best for that top-of-the-table clash.
“Everyone’s looking forward to the Klassiker,” he said.
“Overall, we know that there are still things we want and need to keep working on. We need to get better if we actually want to be able to pose a real threat to Bayern.
“When they come to our stadium next week, then we obviously want to take the chance and be present.”
The hope will be that Haaland suffers no reaction and will be ready to start in the Bundesliga blockbuster.
