Since snubbing Bayern Munich to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2012, Marco Reus has watched the Bundesliga trophy head to the Allianz Arena every single year.
But he still doesn’t regret his decision. Nor his decision to reject Bayern again and sign a new deal with Dortmund in 2015.
When he did that, the Black and Yellows were 16th in the Bundesliga.
They now top the table and Reus has, once again, insisted a trip south doesn’t interest him as the league returns from its winter break.
“Me? To Bayern Munich? Never! You will never see me at Bayern, I promise that,” the Dortmund captain told FAZ.
“Besides, I’m 30 soon and they want to change the age of their squad.”
The 29-year-old has had the season of his life so far, scoring 11 goals and assisting five in the opening 17 Bundesliga games of the season.
His form saw Dortmund take a six-point lead into the winter break but that was cut to three points as Bayern beat TSG Hoffenheim 3-1 on Friday evening.
Reus’s focus, though, is clear. He wants to bring Dortmund their first title since 2012.
What would it mean to him to win the league?
“With Dortmund, as a Dortmund boy, being able to hold that thing up. That would be incredible, enormous, a dream.”
As Dortmund prepare to face Leipzig on Saturday evening, the dream is well and truly alive for the first time in a while.
