Marco Reus officially named new Dortmund captain

Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus has been appointed the club’s new captain.

Marcel Schmelzer had worn the armband during the last two seasons but stepped down in May, claiming it was the right time for a new man to lead the team.

That man is Reus, the club confirmed after a 1-1 draw with Stade Rennais on Friday evening.

“He sets an example, he has a lot of experience and he’s been here a long time,” Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre said.
