Marco Reus hailed the win over RB Leipzig on Saturday that kept the Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League hopes alive.

Despite the absence of injured talisman Erlin Haaland, Reus and Jadon Sancho (2) conjured up the goals that lifted BVB into the top four with just two games to go.

The caveat to that, though, is that Eintracht Frankfurt can bump them back out of that coveted spot should the Hessen side overcome Mainz on Sunday.

Dortmund can be content that they did their duty, though, and will now bounce into the DFB Pokal final against the same opposition renewed confidence.

“It was the tough game we expected,” captain Reus admitted afterwards.

“Leipzig have a good team. We played very well in the first half and then made it 2-0 early on in the second.

“But then we didn’t have such a good foothold in the game and Leipzig were applying a lot of pressure.

“At times, we got lucky that we didn’t go 3-2 down. But we showed spirit and went 3-2 ahead ourselves.

“We’ve done it! That was very important. We absolutely want to get into the Champions League, but of course we also want to win the cup final.

“First and foremost, it was important for us to win this match. Now we’ll prepare ourselves for Thursday, because we want to win that one too.”

Dortmund will finish their Bundesliga campaign with a trip to Mainz next Sunday, before entertaining Bayer Leverkusen on the final day.
