Former Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta explained why Inter Milan should have taken the foot off the pedal on Monday night.
Ahead of Monday’s night big Serie A showdown, the Nerazzurri were the slight favorites given their status as reigning Italian champions. However, many tipped the Biancocelesti to prevail given their exhilarating form under Marco Baroni. Nevertheless, the outcome was quite astonishing, as Inter steamrolled their visitors by six unanswered goals.
And while Inter have been finding great success on the pitch in Serie A, perhaps some of their fans will be inspired by their beloved club’s exploits and emulate their success on some of the most exciting online slots games, like Monopoly Money Grab, Bonanza Rush Express and Big Bass Vegas.
Nevertheless, Ballotta felt Inter went a step too far by destroying their fallen opponents.
The Nerazzurri took the lead from the spot through Hakan Calhanoglu. Federico Dimarco kept his composure to add a quick second before the break.
With Mario Gila and Samuel Gigot both succumbing to physical issues, Marco Baroni had to rely on a makeshift backline. This meant switching Adam Marusic, a right-back by trade, to a central defender.
This mandatory call proved costly for the Biancocelesti, as the Montenegrin had a torrid second half. This allowed Inter to score another four goals. Nicolo Barella had the pick of the bunch, while Denzel Dumfries, Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram participated in the party.
Hence, Ballotta suggests Inter didn’t need to add insult to injury, as this result will leave an open wound for years to come.
“Inter could have behaved differently, without attacking an opponent who was in difficulty,” said the 60-year-old in his interview with Lalazio.com via Calciomercato.
“With a cool head, they could have stopped and managed the game better. It was already over and the result was safe. I understand that in football when you play you don’t think about the aftermath, especially when you’re a striker.
“They hadn’t scored for a long time and they tried to take advantage of the opportunity. Thuram did so, Lautaro Martinez didn’t. It happens that when you haven’t scored for a long time and you have the opportunity, you go for it.
“But football is also like that, ruthless. But you have to be careful, as some things are never forgotten.”
Ballotta played for both clubs during his incredibly lengthy career. He still holds the record for being the oldest player to feature both in Serie A and the Champions League.
