Ajax are trying to tie down two key defenders on contract extensions.
Speaking to Voetbal International, director of football Marc Overmars confirmed offers have been made to Lisandro Martínez and Noussair Mazraoui.
Martínez has only just begun pre-season training after his summer success at the Copa América with Argentina.
But Overmars revealed that the process has been in the works for some time.
“We offered him a new contract two months ago,” the former Netherlands winger said.
“He still has a two-year contract with an option for another year, but we think an upgrade and extension are in order.
“There have already been several conversations, after which his football summer started. He’s been back since this week, so we’ll pick it up again.
“The proposal lies with them.”
Morocco international Mazraoui is heading into the final year of his existing deal, with Overmars admitting that “we really want him to stay”.
Centre-back Martínez joined from Defensa y Justicia in 2019, while right-back Mazraoui came through the Ajax academy.
