Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella was the victim of a burglary in his home not long after joining the club, according to The Telegraph.

Cucurella is the third Chelsea player to suffer a burglary following incidents with Reece James and Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea and the player did not speak about it, but some personal factors have prevented him from showing his best form.

The Blues manager’ Graham Potter said Cucurella was dealing with personal issues and defended him for his recent poor performances.

There have been calls for Potter to drop him to the bench and play the now-fit Ben Chilwell.

When Cucurella replaced Chilwell yesterday, there were boos from a section of Chelsea’s fans. It will not have gone down well with the 24-year-old who would have likely heard them.

The booing does nothing to help the club or the player, who is already under pressure following his £62 million move from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.

Unsurprisingly, he was not among the players that greeted the travelling fans. He went down the tunnel immediately after the 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park yesterday.

The Blues still have only one win in 2023. The German giants defeated them in the first leg of their round of 16 clash, with Karim Adeyemi scoring the only goal.

However, it was one of Chelsea’s best performances under Potter. Chelsea struck the post and had a chance cleared off the line. Thiago Silva put the ball in the net, but the referee ruled it out for handball.

They also had other chances but could not convert them. The London club will hope to build on their second-half performance when they host Southampton this weekend.
