FC Barcelona have had some of the best players in the world over the years. There was a point under Pep Guardiola when they had arguably the best club team to have ever played the game and they dominated everyone in sight.

Much of the foundation of Guardiola’s glorious era was built on La Masia. The famed Barcelona academy gave the club a golden generation that the Spanish tactician used to his advantage and it was the perfect match back then.

Currently, it looks like history is repeating itself as Hansi Flick is being blessed with yet another golden generation coming through La Masia. The likes of Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Marc Bernal, Marc Casado, Hector Fort, and Fermin Lopez have all come through the ranks in recent seasons.

Among these players, one name that has really stood out this season and has emerged as the engine room of the team is Marc Casado. The 21-year-old midfield star has filled Barcelona’s long-term search for a Sergio Busquets replacement.

Busquets is the best defensive midfielder to have ever played the sport. He has become a reference for so many pivots coming up since his emergence and Marc Casado is no different. As quoted by SPORT, here is what Casado had to say about the club legend:

“Saying I resemble Busquets in the way I understand football would be too much. I try to follow in his footsteps little by little. He’s always been a role model. Physically, we’re not very alike, but what matters in this position is something else.”

Marc Casado is slowly yet surely establishing himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game. The 21-year-old recently made his debut for Spain and emerged as one of their key performers in recent seasons.

It remains to be seen how well Casado performs going forward and how much better he can become. He is already at a very high level and only time will tell how his career plays out.
