The Cameroon Football Federation has announced the departure of Marc Brys from his role as the national team manager just hours after a heated exchange with the president of the federation Samuel Eto’o.

Brys appointed by the government over the heads of the federation had been on a collision course with Eto’o for some time. Yesterday morning this finally came to a head when the Belgian manager and the coaching staff were summoned for a meeting by the president.

To Eto’o’s dismay, Brys arrived accompanied instead by government representatives, a fact that annoyed the former footballer, and sparked an altercation between the president and the manager.

Eto’o was captured on video demanding respect from the Belgian, “I’m the president of the federation. And you don’t talk to me like that! I was a coach too! And as a footballer, you could never talk to me! You sit down and we work. Stop this sh*t! You think I could do that in Belgium… I was a coach.”

Brys replied, “Yes, [for] three weeks.” A reference to Eto’o’s short stint at Antalyaspor as a player-manager. Brys was warned that if he left the meeting he would be fired from the role. A threat that was carried out by the federation via a press release, where they noted that the Belgian had made “disrespectful comments” towards the president.

Confusion reigns over Marc Brys being replaced by Martin Ndtoungou Mpile

Despite the announcement and the appointment of Martin Ndtoungou Mpile as an interim coach, the strange nature of the Belgian’s appointment has left some confusion over whether Brys has actually been sacked. L’Équipe reports that the Minister of Sports assured the coach that he was still in charge. A dispute that looks as if it will have no end in sight.
