Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has pressed that last night’s 0-0 draw against Athletic Club was not a good enough result for the team, adding that everyone left with a feeling of having to do something more.

“It is a draw that is not enough, in the end, we are left with a feeling of having been able to do something more. We were going for the three points and we haven’t achieved it,” said the stopper as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

The captain added that the team was always looking for a win, but the attacking unit just couldn’t threaten Athletic’s defence.

Eventually, the teams had to settle for a stalemate and Ter Stegen said that this draw is better for Athletic rather than his team.

“Obviously we were going for the victory, we did not reach the area enough, and we lacked tranquillity. The draw is better for them than for us,” he explained.

Lack of ambition and injuries

The veteran German stopper pressed that his team not at all lacks ambition and he simply does not like talking about the subject.

“It’s hard for me not to answer wrong. What this locker room does not lack is ambition and I don’t like people talking about this topic. No not at all. It couldn’t be and we tried until the end,” he pressed.

It is to be noted that Barcelona lost key players, namely, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri through injuries during the fixture and ter Stegen said that it is tough that the team needs to deal with the absence of such key members at such a moment in the season.

“It was a shame they were both at the beginning, which is when you start with the good feelings, but the kids who have entered have done well, let’s hope it’s nothing serious.”

Lastly, he admitted that although Athletic pressed high, they did not pose any kind of threat. At the same time, even when Barcelona were on the attack, they couldn’t figure out a way to breach the defence.

“They pressed up high but it was not intense pressure, we knew how to overcome it but when we reached the rival area it was more difficult for us,” he explained.
