PSG have won the race to the signing of promising Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte (22), according to reports from Foot Mercato and L’Équipe.

PSG and Chelsea were both keen on Ugarte. L’Équipe reported on Sunday that the West London side had begun talks during the transfer negotiations over taking a minority stake in Sporting CP club via Clearlake, as part of a bid to convince the Portuguese outfit to encourage the Uruguayan international to join them over PSG.

However, last night, Fabrizio Romano broke the news that Chelsea had pulled out the race to Ugarte’s signing, leaving Les Parisiens in the lead. The Italian reporter added that PSGoffered more” and Chelsea were not “willing to pay well above what they consider Ugarte’s ‘market rate’”. L’Équipe confirmed on Monday that the Blues have indeed ended all negociations. The outlet goes as far as saying that the 22-year-old midfielder will sign for PSG as early as today.

Foot Mercato report that Ugarte has personally green-lit the move to the Ligue 1 champions. To complete the deal, PSG need to thrash out a deal with Sporting CP over the payment of Ugarte’s €60m release clause.
