Chelsea are closing in on the summer transfer of Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The 22-year-old has been the subject of interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, and the two clubs have been going head-to-head to battle it out for the Uruguayan’s signature.
Following talks, transfer and contract offers, a decision over Ugarte’s future is nearing its conclusion, with Chelsea set to win the race for the midfielder should everything go accordingly.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are ‘very confident’ of acquiring Ugarte, however remain cautious until all of the documents are signed and the deal is officially completed.
Ugarte is set to be Mauricio Pochettino’s first signing since his head coach arrival, with the midfielder expected to be joined by Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig after a pre-agreement at the end of 2022.
As reported by Record Portugal, here are all of the details of Manuel Ugarte’s proposed move to Chelsea.
Chelsea will pay Sporting CP his €60 million release clause, reportedly proposed in five instalments of €12 million, plus €5 million in add-ons.
Ugarte is set to sign, at a minimum, a six-year contract at Chelsea, which will see him earn €3.5 million-a-year plus bonuses.
It’s claimed Ugarte is expected to arrive in London next week to carry out his medical tests to finalise his switch to England.
He will return to Portugal to take care of everything in preparation for his big-money transfer.
Despite the Ligue 1 club offering €5 million-a-year, Ugarte prefers the Premier League and the sporting project at Chelsea.
