Manchester United cruised to a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes grabbed two goals apiece, with Alejandro Garnacho also getting on the score sheet to ensure the team’s progression to the next stage of the competition.

United had 57% possession to Leicester’s 43% share of the ball. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men aimed a total of 23 shots, with nine of these being on target. The Foxes on the other hand had seven shots on target from their total 16 cracks at goal.

The Red Devils put together 557 passes with a success rate of 87%.

Leicester strung 427 passes with a pass accuracy of 84%.

One of the team’s outstanding performers was Manuel Ugarte. The South American has not had the best start to life since arriving in the summer for Paris Saint-Germain but tonight, he showed the fans why United forked out big money to secure his services.

Ugarte had 75 touches of the ball to his name and successfully found his teammates with 52 of the 58 passes he attempted, managing an individual completion rate of 90%.

He tried to connect with three long balls and successfully found his target twice.

The Uruguayan delved into six ground duels, coming out on top on four occasions. He won all two of the aerial challenges he contested.

Ugarte made one clearance and twice as many interceptions. He also won four tackles.

The 23-year-old looked very good in the middle of the park alongside Casemiro and hopefully, he now kicks on and grows into his own at Old Trafford.

United return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host Enzo Maresca’s high-flying Chelsea.
