Manuel Neuer signs one-year contract extension with Bayern Munich | OneFootball

Iconic Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has extended his contract with the club by a further year, keeping him at the Allianz Arena until 2024.

Neuer belied his 36 years with another stellar campaign between the sticks for Die Roten in 2021/22, making a number of trademark stunning saves across the campaign and keeping 14 clean sheets in all competitions.

The Germany international's contract had been due to expire in June 2023, but this renewal ensures he will remain with Bayern for another two years at the very least.

Neuer joined the Bavarian giants from Schalke in 2011 and has gone on two win a huge haul of trophies, including ten Bundesliga titles and the Champions League twice.

Another league title arrived at the end of 2021/22 - a season in which Neuer became the new owner of the Bundesliga record for most wins after surpassing the previous mark made by fellow stopper and Bayern legend Oliver Kahn.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Neuer said: "I'm very pleased that my journey continues at FC Bayern. We'll have a very good team again with which we can play for every title.

"As a goalkeeper, captain and leader, I want to be the support and a key factor in our big goals. We want to extend our title record and compete again for the DFB Cup and Champions League."

There is currently no obvious successor to the veteran stopper in the Bayern squad, so he is likely to continue between the sticks for the foreseeable future.

Die Roten did sign Alexander Nubel in 2020, also from Schalke, but he has been on loan at Ligue 1 side Monaco and recently suggested that it wouldn't make sense for him to return to Germany if Neuer renewed.

The World Cup winner's renewal was never really in doubt with talks progressing smoothly throughout the spring. He follows fellow veteran Thomas Muller in signing on until 2024.
