Manuel Neuer is still Germany’s undisputed No.1 according to Low | OneFootball

The outgoing national team manager believes the Munich gloveman is as determined as ever to remain the best.

Joachim Low has stated that he believes Manuel Neuer will stay at the top of his game for several years. Regarded as the best keeper on the planet for the last decade, Neuer has been at the top of the goalkeeping tree for over 17 years and has the titles and accolades to back it up. Winning just about everything with Bayern Munich as well as tasting World Cup glory in 2014.

Many pundits have put forth the suggestion that Neuer may be nearing the end of his international career, however the outgoing Germany coach Low still firmly believes that he can remain between the posts for the foreseeable future.

Ahead of Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Romania today, Low gave a great insight into his current No.1.

“At the moment he makes a completely well-trained impression.

“He’s turned 35, he’s had an incredible career so far. He is highly motivated, still has big goals, is hungry for titles, so I think he can play at this level for a few more years.”

Neuer’s competition

At this stage, there are a couple of keepers who are looking at trying to dethrone Neuer ahead of the European Championships.

Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been the undisputed back-up for Neuer over the years and after another standout campaign for the Spanish giants and it is almost certain he will be the No.2 during the summer.

Then there is Bernd Leno. The Gunners keeper has had an up and down campaign with the north London side so he has not done much to warrant a place behind Neuer for the summer competition while Kevin Trapp, Eintracht Frankfurt’s No.1 is also on the shortlist for Low.

Neuer in a league of his own

It remains highly unlikely that Neuer will be displaced and he will look to add to his 97 caps for Germany since his debut way back in 2009. In Brazil in 2014, Neuer won the Golden Glove en route to Germany’s World Cup success and has also been a member of the Confederation Cup triumph.
