Manuel Neuer was thrilled with Bayern’s fightback as a four-goal, 14-minute flurry allowed them to take down Benfica 4-0 in Portugal.
Though Jorge Jesus’ side were able to hold the German champions scoreless for 70 minutes, Bayern were still able to show off their attacking firepower.
“I think the second half was outstanding. We got off to a good start against Leverkusen,” Neuer said.
“But we didn’t allow a lot, and there was also a very good goalkeeper on the opposite side.
Then we had bad luck with the VAR that will have been correct. But if we score earlier, it’s easier for us.
The win, marked with a clean sheet, was also Neuer’s 100th Champions League appearance as a Bayern player, a milestone that he is very proud of.
His total of 122 appearances in the competition rank 14th all-time.
“That is of course gigantic. Of course, I wouldn’t have believed that at the beginning of my career. It was great to be able to play here again.”
Bayern will now gear up for their Saturday clash against Hoffenheim, who are currently ninth in the Bundesliga table.
