It has been confirmed that Manu Koné (22) will miss the remainder of the U21 European Championships after sustaining an injury during’s France’s 4-1 victory over Switzerland.

The victory was secured thanks to goals from Amine Gouiri, Bradley Barcola, Rayan Cherki and Maxence Caqueret, but it came at a cost. Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Koné came off early during the game. It has now been revealed that he has suffered a sprained knee with trauma to the kneecap.

He will therefore take no further part in Les Bleuets U21 Euro campaign, which continues against Ukraine. The quarter-final takes place on Sunday. Koné’s period of absence has not yet been revealed. The young Frenchman had been linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this summer, whilst Newcastle United reportedly hold a long-term interest.

Koné has become the second player to withdraw from Les Bleuets’ squad. Michael Olise came off injured against Norway in the second group-stage match and now faces a three-month absence.
