Newcastle United will play hosts to Everton at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon hoping to secure a positive result in the Premier League. The Magpies are winless in their last two matches, so Steve Bruce will be eager to get a much-improved response from his players versus the Toffees this weekend.

The Tyneside outfit will set themselves up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Javier Manquillo expected to get a start at right-back. However, Jacob Murphy will have to settle for a spot on the bench despite his goal-scoring heroics against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

Defence

Karl Darlow will operate in between the sticks for the Magpies after conceding five goals in his past two outings in the English top-flight. Jamaal Lascelles will probably get the nod to operate along with Federico Fernandez at the heart of the Newcastle backline as they hope to keep Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet during the game.

As mentioned earlier, Javier Manquillo will play as the right-back while Jamal Lewis looks to impress on the other side at left-back. Bruce would want both of them to sit deep and mop up the danger at the back before going on and providing support to the front players.

Emil Krafth might have to be content with a place on the bench as he will provide some added cover for the defensive positions in Bruce’s squad.

Midfield

Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick will assume the duties of the holding midfielders as they focus on providing adequate protection for their teammates in defence. The pacey trio of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser will try to interchange possession amongst each other and play just ahead of them as part of Bruce’s attack.

Sean Longstaff is a slight concern for this game and will be in a race against time to be fit for this game. Still, Jacob Muphy will make up the numbers on the bench.

Attack

Callum Wilson will spearhead the Magpies attack yet again after failing to find the back of the net in each of his past two starts in the Premier League. This game against Carlo Ancelotti’s men could be an ideal chance for him to return to form at St. James’ Park this weekend.

Andy Carroll and Joelinton will be available for selection on the bench and could influence the game as the second-half substitutes if required.
