Giovanni Manna has started his reign at Napoli and is pushing to see Antonio Conte in the dugout, with Stefano Pioli considered an alternative.

The 35-year-old Italian director officially left his post with Juventus on Tuesday and arrived in the Campania capital the same day, meeting with Aurelio De Laurentiis’ right-hand man Andrea Chiavelli, keen to start building the new project at the club.

Napoli still haven’t found a long-term replacement for Francesco Calzona, which is Manna’s first task as the club’s new sporting director. Whilst Gian Piero Gasperini is a favourite of De Laurentiis, the tactician seems unlikely to leave Atalanta ahead of their Champions League return next season.

Page 24 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Manna is pushing to see Conte take over as the new Napoli head coach, with the latest talks being held between club and coach last week. The majority of the squad approve of the choice, believing in his qualities and winning mentality.

The other candidate appreciated by Manna is Pioli, who is on the cusp of finally leaving Milan after five years at the helm.
