Mancini among Juventus’s Motta replacements in case of immediate departure

Juventus reportedly have three options lined up to replace head coach Thiago Motta in the event that he is dismissed before the end of the current campaign, including former Italy national team CT Roberto Mancini.

The pressure is beginning to mount for Motta approaching the end of his first season in charge of the Old Lady. Juventus are out of the Champions League, out of the Coppa Italia, were beaten by Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana, and there is still a long way to go in Serie A before a top-four finish is secured.

The Bianconeri are coming off the back of a humiliating 0-4 defeat at home against Atalanta last weekend, the club’s worst home defeat since the 1960s, and only the third time this century Juve have lost by a four-goal margin at home or away in any competition.

Mancini among Juventus options for immediate Motta replacement

According to reports from Tuttosport, there is a possibility that Juventus takes immediate action if the team falls to defeat again away against Fiorentina in Serie A this weekend.

If that is the case, or if Juventus decide to cut ties with Motta before the end of the 2024-25 season, there are three options for an immediate replacement, including Mancini and two in-house options.

According to Thursday’s reports, Francesco Magnanelli, who is currently in charge of the Primavera side, is the frontrunner if Juventus decide to go down the caretaker manager route.

He was part of Massimiliano Allegri’s coaching staff last season, so already has experience and familiarity in and around the first team, which gives him an advantage over Next Gen coach Max Brambilla, who has also been linked with an interim job.

Tuttosport claims that Mancini would also be prepared to take over immediately given that he is available after resigning from his position as head coach of Saudi Arabia last year.

There is a possibility that Juventus decide to bring in a new, permanent head coach sooner rather than later with an eye on the FIFA Club World Cup in June.

There are also a number of other names linked with a possible Bianconeri job, including Xavi, Antonio Conte and Igor Tudor.
