Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong looks set to end with it being “improbable” that he’ll join if Casemiro does.

The English club have been trying to sign the Barcelona midfielder all summer but while the Spanish club have been happy to sell him to them, he hasn’t wanted to join.

The Dutchman instead wants to stay where he is and would only consider leaving for Chelsea, who have also been interested in him.

Given his lack of interest, Man Utd have finally turned their attention to other targets, entering talks with Real Madrid to sign Casemiro.

It has been widely reported that with the player keen and his club willing to sell, such a deal will go through, and David Ornstein of The Athletic says it’s highly unlikely De Jong will join if that’s the case.

“United have also explored a move for Frenkie de Jong and a bid for the 25-year-old was accepted by Barcelona earlier this summer,he wrote.

“They were unable to agree personal terms, however, and while the door will remain open from United’s perspective, it is improbable that the Netherlands international would arrive in addition to Casemiro.
