Manchester United Women’s goalkeeper Mary Earps has withdrawn from the England squad with a hip injury.

Earps, who is out of contract at United in the summer, started in goal for the Lionesses as they took on France at St James’ Park on Friday.

However, her time on the pitch was short-lived as she sustained an injury within one minute of the 2-1 loss at the hands of Les Bleus.

Earps felt pain as he controlled a pass back to her feet before clearing the ball to defender Millie Bright.

The United star received treatment and she tried to play through the pain barrier but it quickly became apparent she couldn’t carry on as she hit the deck again.

The 31-year-old was then taken off and replaced by Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton. After the final whistle, Earps was spotted on crutches, sparking concerns that her issue could be serious.

Wiegmann said, “I’ve not spoken to her or the doctor. Of course I’m concerned. She doesn’t go off the pitch often and she’s on crutches. I really don’t know but of course there are some concerns.”

It has now been confirmed that Earps has withdrawn from the England squad with a “minor hip injury.

Uncapped Birmingham goalkeeper Lucy Thomas has been called up to the senior to offset Earps’ absence.

England currently lie in third position in League A Group 3 with four points. Wiegmann’s side have won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three matches.

They need to finish in the top two positions in their group to gain automatic entry into Euro 2025, which is set to take place next summer in Switzerland.

England face a return fixture with France this Tuesday.
