The 28 year old has not kicked a ball in anger since December and it was announced in January that he had suffer a long-term injury that was expected to keep him out for a minimum of ten weeks.

It has been reported since that Martial will not be offered a new deal and the player will leave Old Trafford after nine years at the club this summer.

The attacker has been linked to numerous clubs and it was claimed that he might have departed for Turkey in January before news of the severity of his injury broke.

Italian outlet Tuttosport (via fichajes.com) claim that the Frenchman could land on his feet, though, as two of Italy’s biggest names are interested in signing the forward on a free transfer in the summer.

It is claimed that Martial is “an objective that both clubs share” and “whose departure from Manchester United is considered certain. The 28-year-old Frenchman has barely had minutes in 19 games (7 as a starter)”.

There have already been reports that he is of interest to Italian clubs as Roma have also been linked to the player, as well as Inter on previous occasions.

There were also shock reports this week that Martial had suitors from England in Tottenham Hotspur and in Spain from Barcelona.

However, a recent report suggested that despite the interest, the player is more likely to end up in France as teams such as Olympique Lyonnais have expressed interest in him.

There has been a barrage of mixed messages over Martial’s future, but what is clear is that he will leave Old Trafford under a cloud of disappointment.

He arrived a young 18 year old who breathed life into the Old Trafford crowd with a wonderful debut goals versus Liverpool in September 2015.

However, a string of injuries, poor form and an apparent lack of desire have ruined Martial’s career at the highest level.

Whoever offers him his next chance in football will get a talented player on their day but will also be taking on a huge risk.
