Ruben Amorim has limited options in bid to turn season around
Manchester United will today welcome back three players for the trip to face Everton in the Premier League, in a huge boost for manager Ruben Amorim.
United lost 1-0 at Tottenham last time out, leaving them 15th in the Premier League table as a difficult run continues for Amorim.
Losing to former United manager David Moyes would only increase the pressure on Amorim, who has seen the use of his favoured 3-4-3 system criticised.
While injury problems aren’t the only issue for the Old Trafford giants, they surely aren’t helping.
Amad Diallo will not play again this season after suffering an ankle ligament in training, while Kobbie Mainoo is facing an extended period out of action.
However, Christian Eriksen, Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte have all been passed fit after missing the loss to Tottenham.
Asked for an update on his players’ fitness, Amorim told reporters: “We didn't lose [any more] players. Chris, Manu and Leny will return.
"It's hard to know [when others willl return. Amad is for a long time, Mase [Mason Mount] continues to recover, Luke [Shaw] continues to recover and I don't have a day.
“Toby [Collyer] seems to be the closest one but now now. Kobbie is recovering. Altay [Bayindir] is recovering."
Altay Bayindir and Toby Collyer remain sidelined, along with both Mason Mount and Jonny Evans.
Lisandro Martinez’s knee injury is set to rule him out for a significant period of time.
Man Utd predicted XI: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, de Ligt; Dalot, Fernandes, Casemiro, Dorgu; Zirkzee, Garnacho; Hojlund
Doubts: Bayindir, Collyer
Injured: Shaw, Mount, Evans, Martinez, Mainoo, Diallo
Time and date: 12.30pm GMT on Saturday, February 22, 2025
Venue: Goodison Park, Everton
