Manchester United will negotiate the extension of Diogo Dalot’s contract at Old Trafford when he returns from international duty.

Dalot is currently continuing his fine form on the world’s biggest stage at the World Cup in Qatar. The 23-year-old has started two matches for Portugal, contributing an assist against South Korea and another stellar performance in his side’s 6-1 Round of 16 win against Switzerland.

He has proved to Fernando Santos that he should start the quarter-final against Morocco tomorrow and hopefully, Dalot is rewarded by being named in the lineup.

The defender has started all-but-one match for the Red Devils this season and was only omitted due to facing a one-game suspension. He has racked up one goal and two assists this season, but even without goal contributions, his impact on the team has been invaluable. Dalot looks confident and rejuvenated under Erik ten Hag, who has given him enough game time to prove his abilities.

United’s right-back plans

Fabrizio Romano confirmed today that the club do want to sign a right-back in 2023, however, their priority is tying Dalot down to a long-term deal.

As well as that, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has fallen out of favour under Ten Hag and is expected to leave United in the new year.
