Manchester United have confirmed new signed Edinson Cavani will not be able to make his debut against Newcastle on Saturday due to coronavirus quarantine rules.

Cavani, who moved to Manchester United on transfer deadline day, must stay in isolation until Sunday — 24 hours after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side travel to St. James’ Park.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward has not played a competitive game since March 11 and he’s been forced to self-isolate for 14 days after arriving from Paris on October 4.

“Cavani is being forced to self-isolate due to COVID-19 guidelines following his arrival into the country from France which means he is unable to make his debut at St James’ Park,” a club statement said via ESPN.

“The Uruguay international will be free to play against his former club Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League if deemed fit and ready for action.”

United’s first game back in the Champions League is against the team they last beat in the Champions League.

We take on PSG on October 20 in their first game of the Champions League group stage.

It is thought that Cavani has been training at home but it will be a step up when it turns up to Carrington for his first session. Well, we should hope so anyway!

At PSG, Cavani became used to winning league titles — more than an expectation for Ligue 1’s wealthiest club — so I hope he brings a winning mentality with him. That will rub off on Bruno Fernandes who I can also imagine being a key element to a successful side.

Anthony Martial is suspended for the trip to Newcastle after getting sent off in United’s last outing against Tottenham Hotspur. The less said about that game the better.

Alex Telles will be available for selection and could make his debut.
