Manchester United were eager to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, but they were late to the party.

United addressed their attacking woes this summer by adding Joshua Zirkzee to their ranks. As it turns out, the recruitment team also had their eyes on Olise during the recently concluded summer transfer window.

The French forward left the Premier League to move to the Bundesliga, having agreed to play under Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old right-winger enjoyed a prolific 2023/24 campaign in South London, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in just 19 Premier League appearances.

The impressive numbers and his eye-catching dribbling led to interest from a number of clubs, including Chelsea, before Bayern sealed a deal, believed to be in the region of £60 million.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bavarians triggered a “complex clause” in his contract to get the deal over the line.

The report adds the Red Devils also expressed their interest in signing Olise.

They enquired about the situation and were so “smitten” with the idea of luring the sensational winger from the Eagles that they were ready to call upon Sir Alex Ferguson in their attempts to persuade him to move to the Theatre of Dreams.

However, United were too late, as Bayern wrapped up Olise’s signing in the first week of July.

The Mancunian giants are understood to be still interested in Olise and would be “at front of the queue” if he decides to leave Munich in the future.

Olise has signed a five-year deal with the German outfit so United may have to wait a while before they find themselves in a situation to make a concrete move for the new Bayern man.

For now, Ten Hag will have to continue relying on Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony to trouble opponents from the right flank.
