Manchester United have reportedly warned Mason Greenwood over ‘repeated breaches of discipline’ following the forward’s recent omission from the squad.

Greenwood was left out of the squad for last night’s impressive 2-1 victory at Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League group stage opener, following his absence from the weekend win at Newcastle, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisting the player had sustained an injury.

It is yet unclear how long Greenwood’s exclusion from the squad will last with Solskjaer continuing to speak publicly of an injury problem, though he was pictured in first-team training on Monday before United jetted off to Paris.

According to the Times, however, the forward has been ‘warned by the club over his behaviour’ in recent weeks following ‘repeated breaches of discipline’, including ‘several instances of lateness’.

Greenwood’s warnings come after what has been a difficult start to the season that saw his first senior call-up to the England squad being marred, the teenager sent home from the squad alongside Manchester City’s Phil Foden after the duo breached coronavirus protocols during the Nations League trip to Iceland.

The 19-year-old described the incident as a ‘huge mistake’ and was then left out of the squad for the recent international fixtures against Wales, Belgium and Denmark, and it remains to be seen whether Gareth Southgate opts to recall the star next month.

Greenwood emerged as one of the most exciting talents in English football after bursting onto the scene at Old Trafford last season, becoming the first player in more than two decades to score 10+ league goals in a Premier League season aged 18 or under, and just the third in history after Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.

The youngster has made four appearances for the Red Devils so far this season, opening his account for the campaign during the Carabao Cup victory at Luton last month.
