The Premier League Summer Series returns!

Bruno Fernandes fired Manchester United to their first pre-season win with a pair of well-taken goals on Saturday night. He hit an early penalty to open the scoring before doubling United’s lead with a sweet curling effort in the second half. Jarrod Bowen pulled one back late on with a well-struck shot across goal, but it would not be enough for the Hammers to overturn the result.

As United struggled last year, Ruben Amorim made no secret of the fact that he would have liked to spend pre-season with his squad before taking over, and he seems to be making the most of the training time now - his philosophy is clearly taking root. United were coordinated in their press, and while some attacking moves looked a little rusty, there were obvious signs of progress from the dour football played towards the end of last season.

The same can be said of the Hammers, who, while still slightly disjointed, played promising football. They dominated possession in the first half but struggled to create chances, panicking a little under heavy pressure from the Red Devils. They look well on their way to recovering from a tough 2024-25 campaign.
