Transfer News: Manchester United to sell Alex Telles to fund Kieran Trippier move

According to transfer news from Mirror, Manchester United could sell Alex Telles in an effort to sign Kieran Trippier. The 28-year-old Brazilian could be let go just less than a year after his arrival to funds a move for the 31-year-old Atletico Madrid right-back.

It’s no secret that Manchester United could do with some added competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. United saw last season how Telles’ arrival boosted Shaw’s performances. While Wan-Bissaka isn’t exactly playing bad, he does need cover and competition.

United have been after Trippier for a while now. The former Spurs defender is seen as the perfect foil to Wan-Bissaka due to his attacking abilities. However, United have already had a £10m bid rejected. The Spanish Champions want around £40m for him.

To raise funds, United are now said to be looking at a sale for Alex Telles. The Brazilian has been at the club for just one season but could be shown the door after failing to establish himself as a starter. This is by no means a swap deal with United looking to sell Telles and use that cash to meet the valuation for Trippier.

While Trippier may be a necessary addition to the side, it would seem harsh if someone like Telles was sold for that. The former Porto man is a decent player to have in hand and selling him off would mean there would be no direct competition for Shaw. United should try to find other avenues to raise funds instead of selling a useful defender.
