Almost two months gone in the summer transfer market, Manchester United have had made only one acquisition in Donny Van de Beek.

Since making the move for the reputed Ajax academy graduate, Manchester United have been quiet in the market as the transfer window heads towards its culmination.

According to the reports from French outlet L’Equipe (via Insidefutbol), Manchester United could make an unexpected bid for Sporting CP midfielder Marcus Wendel before the summer transfer window closes.

A bid from United of around €25m for the Brazilian got rejected by Sporting in July.

It has also been reported that AS Monaco are pushing to sign the midfielder too.

Aged 23, Wendel is renowned for his eye-catching versatility — a trait that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer always likes to have in his players. Wendel could play as a centre-midfielder and a defensive midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder.

Having played in 28 games for the club in the 2019-20 Liga NOS, Wendel has racked up three goals and two assists. Despite him being settled under the contract with the Portuguese side until June 2023, a number of suitors are reportedly in the hunt for his services.

And should the interest from the Mancunian club still remain concrete, an offer could arrive any time before the end of the summer transfer window.
