Manchester United’s issues on the right are well-known with manager Erik ten Hag forced to turn to academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho midway through the current season after a number of big-name players let him down earlier.

Jadon Sancho was expected to hold down the fort but he ended up having a major fall-out with the Dutchman who subsequently banished him from the first team.

The manager’s big-money signing from his former club was supposed to show his true potential after a mixed debut season in England but Antony regressed partly due to off-field issues.

With Marcus Rashford not interested in playing down the right and Facundo Pellistri not ready for the step-up, the manager asked the Argentine to play there and he has impressed despite preferring the opposite flank.

United are expected to address this moving forward especially with both Sancho and Antony potentially on the market.

Among the right wingers being eyed by the club, Michael Olise of Crystal Palace is someone the new management really like and INEOS want young, Premier League-proven players and the Frenchman certainly fits the bill.

The 22-year-old has six goals and three assists in nine starts in the Premier League this campaign, while he managed two goals and 11 assists last season, including a last-minute stunner against the Red Devils.

However, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has now revealed that United’s chances of landing the France U21 international is slim due to the lack of Champions League football on offer at Old Trafford.

United are on course to record their worst-ever Premier League finish and they cannot offer Olise Champions League football and that might mean the player moves elsewhere.

“If Olise leaves Palace in the upcoming window I expect it would only be for a Champions League club and, even within that, one of the small number of most prominent of those,” Ornstein said on his weekly Athletic Q+A section.

“He is said to be an intelligent/thoughtful player who knows exactly what level he can reach and will be clear in deciding if, when and where it is right for him to move. Like with his previous contract, there is thought to be a release clause in the fresh terms he signed after the Chelsea saga.

“So clubs will have a decent idea of what they need to do to get him. To my knowledge there have been no meaningful developments so far but obviously there’s a good chance that changes in the coming weeks and months.”

While it could be a big blow, Olise’s injury record is quite poor with the Eagles star missing 20 games due to a recurrent hamstring injury this season while last term, he was out for 13 games.
