There could be a big shock on the cards at Old Trafford as the Independent claim Manchester United are targeting Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.

Although Miguel Delaney notes that a move to Real Madrid is more likely if he does leave City, it’s a sign that their Champions League ban could have a disastrous affect on Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Delaney wrote: “In other words, if he becomes available, United will go for him.”

The rest of the article gives an insightful look on what United are currently planning for the upcoming transfer window.

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the transfer window due to clubs not having the same funds to spend on players and United are cautious about “the optics” of overspending.

Paul Pogba looks set to stay because there are no clubs out there that can afford United’s demands. The prospect of seeing him operate in the same midfield as Bruno Fernandes is getting us excited for the Premier League’s return in two weeks.

Moreover, Delaney adds that Swansea City defender Joe Rodon might change United’s plans to go for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano or Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

City won’t like the fact that someone at United has openly discussed their interest in Sterling — but they shouldn’t have broke the rules in the first place, and clubs have every right to exploit the situation when the transfer window reopens.
