It’s no secret that Andre Onana committed a flurry of amateurish errors last season, with backup Altay Bayindir faring no better.

Following the duo’s escapades, United have been linked with several elite goalkeepers ahead of the summer transfer window, with Italian star Gianluigi Donnarumma emerging as a potential candidate.

At the start of June, United reportedly registered their interest in Donnarumma, who recently lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy with PSG.

Naturally, they weren’t the only interested party, with Chelsea, Manchester City, Juventus, and Inter Milan all reportedly in the race to sign the Italian shot stopper as well.

But while the rumours surrounding Donnarumma’s future continue to swirl, the goalkeeper himself came out from the shadows to confirm which club he wants to play for come next season.

Fabrizio Romano posted on X to confirm Donnarumma’s future plans, quoting the Italian keeper himself.

“Gigio Donnarumma on his future: ‘My priority is to stay at Paris Saint-Germain and sign new deal’.”

“‘I don’t think there will be any issue or problem’, he added.”

Given his clear decision, it appears that United’s pursuit of Donnarumma is at an end. Still, this doesn’t mean that the club should lose all hope when it comes to thinking about a new goalkeeper signing.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, United are leading the race to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.

Given this latest turn of events, it appears that United will do well to continue their pursuit of the Argentine, particularly as they look to shore up their defence ahead of next season.
