Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo prepares Real Madrid plans with Champions League in mind

According to Catalan news outlet El Nacional (h/t The Mirror), Cristiano Ronaldo is currently preparing plans to join Real Madrid if Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

United have struggled this season to really make a charge for the PL title and are already out of the EFL Cup. Ronaldo has been among the goals but since the team isn’t performing well in recent times, it is not a surprise that his performances have also been under the microscope.

However, Cristiano is already looking ahead to the next season as he is planning a return to Santiago Bernabeu if Man United do not qualify for next season’s Champions League. He has asked his agent Jorge Mendes to start talks with Florentino Perez if the scenario mentioned above becomes true.

CR7 back to Madrid?

Wanting to play in the prestigious European competition would be normal for all players who are playing at the top level. Naturally, the 36-year-old has ambitions of featuring in the UCL next season as well. But if this update is believed to be true, he could potentially leave a sour taste in the mouth of many United supporters.

The Portuguese international has expressed that he is displeased with the club’s state and wants to have a major role in helping them get back to the glory days. Now, if he does end up leaving the Red Devils following this admission, fans may not take kindly to him ditching the club in tough times.

He enjoyed a highly successful time under Sir Alex Ferguson and won everything in sight during his time in Madrid. The Serie A title was also added to his cabinet when he was in Italy, so if he is experiencing a slow season at Man United, it would not be surprise if he aims to get back amongst the trophies one way or the other.

Regardless of any of this, the Portuguese star must raise his level to play to the high standards that he is known for. That would only assist the club in return by achieving the objective of finishing in the top-four places in the Premier League. One could say that winning the European competition would be enough but it would be a fallacy to think that the team is ready for that right now going by our current level of performance.

Ralf Rangnick’s men are currently fourth in the league table with 38 points from 22 games. Arsenal can go one point ahead of them if they win their game in hand, and Tottenham could leapfrog the Red Devils by 4 points if they end up winning their two games in hand.

So, the race is really tight right now and that is without considering West Ham United, who trail us by a point having played one game more.
