Real Madrid have identified Manchester United star Diogo Dalot as a potential alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold, as per reports.

Los Blancos have long been linked with the Liverpool full-back, who has now entered the final year of his deal at Anfield.

His contract situation combined with Jurgen Klopp’s exit at the end of the last season has further intensified speculation over his future.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Spanish giants are “keeping tabs on whether Alexander-Arnold decides to put pen-to-paper” in Merseyside.

In the event the England international decides to place his trust in Arne Slot’s project and extend his stay at Liverpool, Madrid are prepared to look elsewhere.

It is claimed if Liverpool manage to convince their academy product to sign a new contract, the La Liga outfit will turn their attention towards Old Trafford, with an aim to lure Dalot to the Spanish capital next year.

If Liverpool get their way, Madrid are “poised” to explore the possibility of signing the Portuguese full-back, resulting in Erik ten Hag “being fearful of his squad being raided.”

While Alexander-Arnold is viewed as Madrid’s “first-choice target”, Dalot has been on the club’s radar over the past 18 months amid their search for a long-term replacement for Spanish legend Dani Carvajal.

The 25-year-old’s form has been one of the few positives of Ten Hag’s reign. He has arguably been United’s best player in the last 24 months.

His technical quality has made him a crucial part of United’s build-up play, and his ability to play on both flanks has helped the manager navigate Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s injury issues somewhat comfortably.

United are expected to be “desperate” to keep Madrid away from their star full-back, who is tied to Old Trafford until 2028.

Dalot’s long-term contract puts the Mancunians in a strong negotiating position if Florentino Pérez and company do decide to knock on their doors.
